Honor Society helps students continue in the development of skills in leadership, service, scholarship and character. Scholarships and college entrance are possible benefits to its members. 

 

Membership in the Honor Society at Central Valley High School is by application only, and applications are accepted for Honor Society every year in October.  Applications for seniors are accepted during October of the senior year only; senior applications will not be accepted in the spring.  Requirements for admission include 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA, community service and leadership activities, and at least one semester at CVHS. Students must have completed at least one semester at CVHS and be sophomores, juniors, or seniors. Freshmen are not eligible for National Honor Society. Members in middle school honor society do not automatically become members of the Honor Society at CVHS. 

 

Once admitted to Honor Society, students must pay $8 dues per year, and participate in community service each year.  Students may complete a community service opportunity with Honor Society, earn an academic letter, or turn in documentation to Mr. Mitchell showing completion of hours beyond the advisory requirement. 

 

In order to wear honor cords at graduation, members of Honor Society must meet the above requirements each year.  Once a student is a member of honor society, they remain a member as long as they continue to meet the requirements (there is no need to reapply).

 

Academic Letters

Students may apply for an Academic Letter after they have become an Honor Society Member.  Requirements are:  

  • 3.6 or higher cumulative gradepoint average
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation
  • 20 hours of  verified community service
  • Rigorous academic schedule
  • ASB membership

Applications for a fall academic letter (service completed May 15 - 1st semester) are due January 15, and applications for spring academic letter (service completed 2nd semester) are due May 15 and can be found through the link at right or picked up from Mr. Mitchell in A201.

 

National Honor Society Dues Dues for National Honor Society members are $4 per semester or $8 per school year. Dues must be paid each year a student is involved in National Honor Society. What do the dues pay for? Dues help pay for certificates, academic letters, tapping ceremonies and graduation honor chords for all members. Students who do not pay their dues will not be eligible for academic letters or graduation honor chords.
