Central Valley High School Counseling Department Supporting Every Student
The Central Valley High School Counseling Department is committed to helping every student thrive in high school and prepare for a successful future. Our counselors partner with students, families, educators, and community resources to support academic success, career and postsecondary planning, and personal and social development.

Our goal is to empower students to make informed, intentional decisions about their education, well-being, and future. We provide both proactive and responsive support, helping students develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and resources they need to navigate high school and life beyond graduation.

We believe every student has unique strengths, interests, needs, and goals. Our comprehensive counseling program is designed to meet students where they are and help them take meaningful steps toward their individual futures.

A Comprehensive School Counseling Program
Our counseling program is:
  • Student-centered — We recognize and respond to the individual strengths, interests, needs, and goals of each student.
  • Developmental — We provide support that helps students grow throughout high school and prepare for their next steps.
  • Proactive — We emphasize prevention, early intervention, and skill development.
  • Collaborative — We work with students, families, educators, administrators, and community partners.
  • Inclusive and equitable — We work to ensure every student has access to the information, opportunities, and support needed to pursue their goals.
  • College, career, and life focused — We help students connect their high school experiences to meaningful opportunities beyond graduation.
  • Data-informed — We use information about student needs and outcomes to identify priorities, provide targeted support, and continually improve our program.

Planning for Life After High School
There is no single definition of success or one path to a fulfilling future. Students may pursue a four-year college or university, community or technical college, apprenticeship, military service, career training, employment, entrepreneurship, or another pathway.

Our counselors help students explore their options, understand requirements, identify resources, and develop a plan that reflects their strengths, interests, and goals.

Our Commitment
Every student deserves access to caring adults, meaningful opportunities, and the information needed to make thoughtful decisions about their future.

At CVHS, our counselors are here to listen, guide, advocate, connect, and support students as they navigate high school and prepare for what comes next.

Our goal is to help every student leave Central Valley High School prepared to take their next step with confidence, purpose, and a plan.

Professional Standards
The CVHS Counseling Department is committed to professional standards and ethical practices in school counseling. Our work is informed by Washington State educational expectations and professional school counseling standards and ethical principles.

These standards guide our commitment to student advocacy, confidentiality, collaboration, equity, professional practice, and the academic, career, and personal development of all students.
