Connecting to Our Community

CVSD recently invited the community into our schools to learn about innovative programs. Each Community Connection event had a theme unique to the hosting school.

Liberty Creek Elementary, 23909 E. Country Vista Dr, highlighted the arts in education with their “Meet the Masters” art program, featuring a pop art gallery throughout the entire school. Guests enjoyed a patriotic performance from the kindergartners and were invited to create take-home art.

EPIC (Excellence, Purpose, Impact and Community) programs were featured at Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan Rd, including DECA, Project Lead the Way, community service, cheerleading, leadership and more. The CV orchestra and an acoustic solo rounded out the program.

Ponderosa Elementary, 10105 E. Cimmaron Dr, invited the entire neighborhood to be their guests with a Mr. Rogers themed production. They showcased everything from rocket building to cross country and from “Math is Cool” to ASB and the sweet tunes of the Pinetones choir. It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood indeed.

The advanced food production class at University High School, 12420 E. 32nd Ave, served guests hot breakfast with a serenade by the choir. They highlighted multiple pathways for students: Army JROTC; construction, welding and automotive; biomed; computer science; the Capstone program, and more. A construction and automotive tour followed, resulting in new partnerships with the Association of General Contractors and Dishman Dodge.

North Pines Middle School, 11900 E. Broadway Ave, proved that teaching positive character and social skills to middle school students yields positive results evidenced by both data and especially by the students who spoke. North Pines believes in “growing greatness” through student, family and community connections. The newly adopted CharacterStrong curriculum sets clear academic and behavior expectations. Attendees were invited to take the “Webby Pledge” and share experiences with one another.
